Immigration in the Post-9/11 World
In 2000, California’s Legislative Analyst’s Office estimated that 1 in 4 Californians had been born in another country. Many came here as a result of legal immigration—some 4 million in the past 20 years. Still others are here as a result of continuing flows of illegal immigration. Both the President and members of Congress have submitted numerous proposals to reform America’s immigration programs in light of our new Homeland Security needs, including provisions for guestworker programs and other measures to deal with the existing population of illegal immigrants. Mr. Jones will present his proposals to address the continuing issues related to illegal immigration, along with measures to increase border security. Mr. Jones is the former Secretary of State for the State of California, former Assemblyman and Assembly Minority Leader, and currently a rancher, farmer, and businessman.
