those were headlines from only one day in February 2002, reporting the most hectic home-buying spree in Southern California in thirteen years, including double-digit increases in Orange County. At the same time, other reports announced that the Orange County housing market slid backwards, giving up some big gains made in 2001. Whatever the trends may be, one thing is certain: the growing demand for affordable homes is a major issue for people working in Orange County - one which is not likely to be resolved soon, but has serious implications for Orange County's future.
These and other issues of local and national economic significance will be the focus of an Orange County Forum presentation by Henry Cisneros. From his background as mayor of San Antonio, Texas, where he helped to rebuild the city's economic base through massive infrastructure and downtown revitalization and was selected "Outstanding Mayor" in 1986 by City and State magazine … through his tenure as the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the Clinton Administration … his role as the president and chief operating officer of UniVision Communications (the Spanish language broadcaster which has become the fifth most-watched television network in the nation) … and now as Chairman of American CityVista: A Cisneros Communities Venture in partnership with KB Homes … Cisneros has emerged as a national leader in housing innovation and city revitalization.
