Governing the Nation Continuing Crisis? Or Business as Usual?
The first year and a half of the new millennium has been characterized by incredible, and generally unforeseen, events across the nation and in California: prices up to $2.50 a gallon for gasoline; an electricity crisis threatening to bust the economic boom of the 90's; a presidential election that seemed to never end almost culminating in the final decision being made by the House of Representatives; an equally divided United States Senate whose balance was tipped (for the first time in American history)by the defection of a Senator from one party to another; resumption of a centuries-old debate about the role of religion in public life in America . . . and who knows what else to come!
Christopher Cox, Orange County's senior member of the House of Representatives and fifth highest member of the majority leadership, continues to be an integral player in these events and helps to shape public policy on these and other matters of importance to every Orange Countian as well as citizens across the nation. Most recently, Representative Cox was widely rumored to be nominated to the 9th Circuit Federal Court of Appeals, a potential springboard to the Supreme Court. Ideological foes in the Senate have actively worked to thwart such an appointment, creating yet another national debate over the role of federal judges as well as the role of the Senate in approving them. Always an informed and knowledgeable guest at the Forum, Congressman Chris Cox will offer a stimulating and insightful perspective on a variety of interesting and controversial national issues.
