Now home from the War in Iraq, Reporter Gordon Dillow and Photographer Mark Avery were embedded for more than a month with Alpha Company of the 1st Battalion/5th Marines based at Camp Pendleton. This unit was one of the first ground units into Iraq. Both Register journalists had prior experience in areas of intense conflict before rolling into Iraq with the Marines. Dillow is a Vietnam veteran and
Avery covered the Tianamen Square protests for the Associated Press.
Join with us to see Avery's photographs and hear from both of them what the View from the Front was like.
