A New Chancellor's Perspective on Challenges and Opportunities

Dr. Michael Drake was installed as UCI's chancellor in July 2005. He presides over a campus destined to grow to 30,000 students within a few years, complete a major expansion of its hospital at UCI Medical Center and potentially add a law and other professional schools. Just five months into his new job, he was confronted with a crisis related to the medical center's liver transplant program. Dr. Drake now faces the challenge of managing past issues while leading UCI into its future - and final - stages of growth.
