Presidential Candidate ~ Senator John McCain
The son and grandson of prominent U.S. Navy admirals, in 1967 U.S. Naval Academy graduate John McCain was shot down over Vietnam and held as a prisoner-of-war in Hanoi for five and a half years, much of it in solitary confinement. Retired from the Navy in 1981, McCain was first elected the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982 and to the U.S. Senate in 1986. Declaring money the root of all political evil, he recently challenged his fellow contenders for Presidential nomination to pressure Congress to reform the nation's political finance system.
